ABOUT / EST. SCHAERBEEK, OCT 2021

Curious,
principled,
bottom-up.

Since October 2021, DAO Brussels has gathered the Brussels crypto community every first Wednesday of the month. We started as a crypto education meetup. We became a builder community with real projects and real friends. Beer and sodas at every event.

THE ETHOS

Come as you are

All ages, languages and expertise levels. Crypto-curious, seasoned buidlers, total sceptics — everyone is welcome. "Spreekt ge Vlaams ou français, copain.e?"

Organized bottom-up

No permanent leader. No fixed agenda. "Whoever shows up are the right people. Whenever it starts is the right time to start." The format keeps evolving because the community keeps deciding.

Build for Brussels

We want to get our hands dirty and use crypto to make a positive impact on Brussels. That means real projects, real code, and real community — not just talk.

THE HISTORY

2021 – 2022
Come learn

Citizen Corner, Schaerbeek. Three acts every month: come'n'mint, come'n'learn (two talks), come'n'chat (unconference tables). 54–74 people at peak, neighbourhood energy, peak NFT hype. The Brussels crypto community finding itself.

2022
Come talk

After RegensUnite, we dropped the presentations entirely. No stage, just facilitation. 1-on-1s, small groups, law of two feet. "The floor is yours." Numbers dipped, warmth went up.

2022 – 2023
Come work

Parallel community-hosted workshops. Anyone could propose a table. Topics got specific: Soulbound Tokens, DAO tooling, Snapshot voting, web3 security, Ordinals. Moved around: Café Copain, then BeCentral above Central Station.

2024
Come build

EthCC — the biggest European Ethereum conference — came to Brussels. Crypto Kastaar, a community-brewed Belgian beer, became a real project. New home at Commons Hub Brussels. The community network went citywide.

2025
Pod format

Major shift: Crypto Wednesdays are for builders. Plenary → pods (parallel working circles, dim lights, ambient music) → plenary. Eight named stewards. From learning about web3 to making with it.

2026 →
Working assembly

Less stage, more table. Monthly working assemblies at the Commons Hub. Block 26 brought the entire Belgian web3 ecosystem together for a night. The format keeps evolving — that's the point.

WHO SHOWS UP

Crypto Curious

Heard about crypto in the news one too many times. Looking for a low-pressure way to understand what's actually going on.

Starters

First wallet, first smart contract, first DeFi position. Questions are the point — someone in the room knows the missing piece.

Buidlers

Developers and makers who want local partners and sharp feedback. Crypto Wednesday is a good place to find both.

DAO Workers

Living the web3 chaos daily. Here to compare notes, help others make the jump, and catch up with friends over a drink.
